Meet Superhero Malachi & His Family Photography Session in Ripon, CA

Being a family photographer means that I get to grow up alongside your family.  From taking photos of your sweet newborn to senior portraits and every family session in between, I get to experience it all. Watching my client’s families go through different seasons of life is truly a gift that I cherish.

Once in a while, this gift means that I photograph a family going through a challenging season. Earlier, I shared how photographs help families cope with infant loss and how professional photos are powerful to capture and remember a season of life - the happy and challenging ones.

Last year, I was contacted by a family through The Gold Hope Project with an opportunity to photograph a very special family. I’ll tell you more about this organization and introduce you to the superhero of this story - Malachi.

The Gold Hope Project

The Gold Hope Project is a group of photographers aiming to gift families battling a pediatric cancer diagnosis a free portrait session for their little warriors. It’s a way to help families enjoy a family portrait session and have a professional photograph of their family to treasure forever.

Families with a child battling cancer have so much on their plates, and this is a way to help them enjoy a fun moment. Please read more about this incredible organization on their website and how you can support them.

Meet Superhero Malachi

After this precious family contacted me, we got right to work to make this outdoor family portrait session magical. We decided to take these portraits in Honda Hilla outside of Ripon, CA. I talked to Malachi’s mom to learn more about him and what he likes. Turns out he loves superheroes! I had to incorporate this into the portrait session. Luckily, I reached out to local Ripon business Emmry Cloth for help creating the perfect cape for this superhero. Tawnya, from Emmry Cloth, sewed a spectacular gold cape for Malachi to wear during the portraits.

The Gold Hope Project likes something gold to be incorporated into the photos as a nod to the ribbon color of childhood cancer. To complete this superhero’s look, we found a toy sword to feel like the action hero he is!

The Power of Family Portraits During Difficult Seasons

I make sure to do something during this type of family portrait session to capture the entire family. We had a lot of fun taking photos of all the children and some special moments with mom and each child. Malachi is the superhero of this family, but it’s also important to help the whole family enjoy the session. Superheroes need their sidekicks, right?

Each season brings moments of challenges and peace. I’m grateful that I could provide this amazing family a moment that they’ll be able to look back on and remember with joy.
