What to Wear Fall Photos Ripon CA
Fall is almost here and you are probably planning to have your family photos taken soon. As a Ripon Family Photographer, I just wanted to share some tips for What to Wear for your Fall Family Portraits.
1) Choose colors that coordinate. By that I don’t mean matchy, matchy (all white shirts and all jeans). Coordinate means choose 2-3 colors and find outfits with similar shades and mix in some neutrals. Here’s a great example: grey and blush with a pop of burgundy. Notice there are no distracting patterns or horizontal stripes that draw your eyes to the clothes and away from the faces. You want the people to be the focus of your portrait, not the wild pattern someone chose to wear. Also, don’t choose greens if your backdrop is going to be trees. You’ll just blend in with the background instead of being the focus of the portrait.
2) No crazy patterns or horizontal stripes. Why? Because horizontal stripes make a person look wider. We all know we want to look our best in our portraits and with a two dimensional photo, horizontal stripes make you look wider than you actually are. It might be a really cute outfit, but unless you are a size 0, I’d say it’s best to stay away from horizontal stripes. Here is another example of a great color palette. Neutrals are always my favorite. They chose blush, cream, white and grey. Great color choices for their skin tone and hair color. It makes the subject the focus of the portrait.
3) Accessorize! Use accessories to be your pop of color, rather than the whole outfit. You can accessorize and add in a pop of color with a necklace, scarf, shoes, boots, a jacket/cardigan, or bow in your child’s hair. Little pops of color are great. Vibrant colors all in one outfit is often too distracting.
4) Layers, layers, layers. I love it when people layer different colors. By adding a cardigan or scarf or tall boots over their jeans. Also, guys… always wear pants. Maybe shorts are okay on a beach session, but most often it’s not the best choice. Often legs are whiter than the rest of one’s body and so I would suggest pants. A small child can handle a bit of pattern since they have a smaller body. So adding a bit of color or pattern on them is okay since they are where you want your eye to be drawn to.I hope this helps you with choosing what to wear for your Fall Family Portraits.
