Summer Activities for Kids Central Valley CA
Need some help with summer activities for kids? I think we all do. Remember when you were a kid and summer seemed to last forever? What I wouldn’t give to go back to that feeling! But as a child, summer can seem boring if you don’t have anything to do. And as we’ve all experienced, this year in particular, has been tough. Not getting to hang out with friends as much as they normally would, kids are looking for fun activities now, more than ever.We are lucky to have so many great opportunities.
Check out some of the awesome things happening in our area:
1) Studio Joy is offering a boot camp workout led by Matt Durao (also known as Coach Matt with the HUGEST heart!), Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9:30. He will be teaching full-body conditioning within limited space, as to give everyone at least 6 feet apart. They also love to have kids help out in the gardens, so contact them to volunteer.
2) You can schedule a time for the Kona Ice Truck to come by your house. You must order ahead and the order must total at least $15.00 (which is about 4 snow cones). Use it as motivation or a reward for getting chores done around the house. If you let your neighbors know ahead of time, everyone can join in the fun! Or check out their Facebook or Instagram to find out where they will be located throughout the day. You can find their truck and stop by for some snow cones.
3) Even though most local sports are on hold right now, there are several places offering online Zoom Work Outs and movement activities. Check out Blessner’s Tae Kwon Do and Shabah Choreography.
4) Hiking and camping are big favorites with my kids. You can find great hiking at Knight’s Ferry, Pinecrest Lake, Tahoe and Half Moon Bay. We recently camped at Lassen Volcanic National Park.
Don’t live in the Central Valley? The following activities work just about anywhere!
5) Raddish Subscription Boxes are designed for kids. Each box contains a recipe for them to cook and educational information about the country it came from.
6) Create your own list of activities at home. My kids are continuing their distance learning with math worksheets from their math workbook.
7) Bike or walk around your neighborhood.
8) Check out geocoaching.com, they will guide your kids on a treasure hunt, to look for treasure hidden by someone in your area.
9) Have your kids assist with chores around the house. My kids have started helping with everything from cleaning out the dishwasher to putting laundry away. My 12-year old has even learned to cook a few things like mac and cheese and fried eggs. Whether you do an allowance, or take them for ice cream, a small reward often motivates them to continue helping.
Summer doesn’t have to be long and boring. When you find or create summer activities for kids, those memories are etched in their minds and often recalled later as some of the best times of their childhood.
